Design - 15 - Jeff Tiedrich: Carnegie

For my next few posts I will be analyzing the work of Jeff Tiedrich. I found Jeff's work through his daughter Katie Tiedrich who runs her own successful parody video game web comic Awkward Zombie, and illustrates for another fantasy web comic called Aikonia.

I know little about Tierichs' design career besides that he has been in design for many years and has done work for many better known institutions, such as IBM, the American Lung Association, and New York University.

This is a logo he created for Carnegie Corporation of New York to promote their new podcasts. It simply and effectively does it's job. The founder Andrew Carnegie is pictured with Apple brand earbuds to draw together the historic and prestige of this institution while drawing in the point that they are using new means to speak to the public. This image is being used in the itunes store as the cover logo for the podcasts. The only fault I see in this piece is that there could be some headroom above Mr. Carnegie, and that the text "Podcasts" at the bottom is slightly opaque where an off white of the same color could have been used just as well.
